Vladimir Dracul
Vladimir stared into the dark, stormy night. He’d placed his call a month
ago and wondered if the others would answer. They had several hours until
the meeting time, and he could sense intruders on the outskirts of his land.
Vladimir sent out a welcome, and the first of them set foot on his estate.
A blur of motion caught Vladimir’s eye, and the Werewolf appeared in front
of him.

“I respond to your invite,” Wolfgang announced politely with a nod to
Vladimir.
“Be welcome, Wolfgang,” Vladimir replied as Baba Yaga and Leonidas
Midas emerged.
“Vladimir,” the crone said, stepping forward.
Vladimir nodded a welcome to them both. Even though gloves shielded
Midas’s hands, Vladimir didn’t wish to risk being turned to gold. Baba
Yaga and Lilith had teamed up to find gloves that worked for the walking
human gold machine—a task he didn’t envy.
“Be welcome Baba and Leonidas.”
They nodded as others approached.
Phantom, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and Frankenstein’s Monster
came forward next. Vladimir watched over the storm, breaking upon the
land in its ferociousness. It provided cover for the next two visitors; Swamp
Creature, with Loch Ness trailing along behind him.
Vladimir felt the request from Lilith, and she came with the Quasimodo,
Medusa, Mary Worth, and Rumpelstiltskin. Then came Poseidon and
Banshee.
Vladimir looked over at the night sky in contemplation. Those in
attendance were all that were left; the rest had been hunted and murdered.
Or were too scared to leave their safe havens. The humans, as their
technology grew, were too big a threat now.
Sadly, Vladimir shut the door of the castle and walked into the drawing
room where his guests waited.
“Why did you call us?” Poseidon, King of the Oceans, asked. The man
looked annoyed at being dragged inland for a meeting.
“Because we are dying. Kraken and the Lagoon Creature died this week.
Bigfoot fell yesterday,” Vladimir said.
“No!” Lilith exclaimed, her fist hitting the table. She rose to her feet,
anger flying off her
“I tried to save Kraken; I was too late. The humans have much to answer
for,” Poseidon swore.
“They are hunting us one by one; it doesn’t help that someone here has a
book published about them, and now they actively hunt him,” Vladimir
said, staring at Frankenstein.
“How was I to know? Those stupid humans should have taken it as
fiction, and I most certainly didn’t publish my own story! It’s ridiculous
how I am referred to as his monster. I’m the real Frankenstein,”
Frankenstein responded, annoyance welling.
“Our legends are being published. The year is 1818. The humans are
progressing with their technology faster than we can run,” Baba replied.
She’d successfully headed Frankenstein’s rant off.
“Inside this room are those who remain—those that answered,” Vladimir
pointed out.
