Warmth bathed one side of my body as I slowly awoke. A spot in my neck
hurt, the pressure point he’d used to make me lose consciousness.
Tender hands caressed my hair, pushed it away from my face. I was afraid
to open my eyes, to discover where I was and why.
“Wake up,” he said, his voice an octave lower than his already normal
deep timbre.
Holding my breath in fear, I did as he asked.
He—not Kalyll—was kneeling next to me, his face sharp and angular with
wildness. He smiled when our gazes met, pointed canines flashing his
satisfaction.
I took a quick second to assess my surroundings. He had laid me atop a
pile of furs in front of a wide fireplace brimming with crackling logs. The
furniture’s medieval look and the stone walls told me I was back in Elf-hame.
“You’re safe, melynthi. You’re with me.” He kissed me, his possessive lips
sending a jolt of desire through me.
I reigned in the instant rush of passion he unleashed in me and pushed it
down, down. It was a monumental effort, but I managed. Awkwardly, I got
up from the floor, skirting around him.
“Why… why am I here?” I asked, casting my eyes around to better assess
my situation.
He remained kneeling on the furs, his cobalt eyes shining with the warm
fire as they roved over the length of my body. A salacious smile stretched his
lips.
When he took me from my bed, I’d been wearing nothing but my bra and
panties. Feeling self-conscious, I took several steps back and hid behind an
armchair. Venturing another quick look at my surroundings, I saw the room
was dominated by a massive canopy bed draped with gray curtains. All the
simple but elegant décor suggested this was a rich male’s chamber. I marked
two sets of windows, both shuttered.
