Today had been an emotional day for everyone. Mason and Jessica had
gotten married. Finally, they were Mr. and Mrs. King. They had married in
the pergola we built for them, the same place where Mason had proposed to
Jess and found out that he was going to be a father.
The setting couldn’t have been more perfect, and the day had been
amazing. We had all sat around the pergola watching as Mason and Jess said
their vows to each other. Both had written their own, and even as a bloke, I
had to admit that I shed a couple of tears at their words of love to each other.
After the photographs with the beautiful backdrop of the South Downs, we
headed into the marquee for the formal dinner and the festivities afterward.
Seeing all my friends with their respective fiancés and families made me
realise one thing: the woman I loved wasn’t with me.
Up until today, I hadn’t realised that something was missing from my life.
I wanted a family of my own. It had never been something that I had thought
about until today. I had been happy leading my single life. I was never a
playboy like Jayden. Then again, I never had his looks or money, but I loved
my single life as he had done. That was, until he met Sienna. Seeing Mason,
Jayden, Brandon, and now Tyler with their women – and, in all but
Brandon’s case, kids – I wanted that.
But was it something that I could look forward to with Kelsey? I couldn’t
even officially tell anyone I was seeing her, worried about the wrath of her
brother Tyler. I knew that if he found out, he would beat the living daylights
out of me and forbid me from ever seeing her again.
So, with all that in mind, why had I left Mason and Jess’s reception early
and headed back to London to Kelsey’s flat? Because no matter how hard I
tried, I loved her and wanted to be with her. I knew I should keep my
distance and let her find a man that Tyler and her parents would be happy
with, but try as I might, I just couldn’t stay away. I wasn’t worried about
Michael and Jen. I knew they would be okay with me seeing Kelsey. Jen was
almost pushing us together whenever I went around there, which I often did.
Just not when Tyler was there.
I loved Tyler like a brother. We had gone to school together from five
years old. Gone through college together and then onto Army training, where
we’d met Jayden and Mark. We were inseparable. That was until he met
Maddie. I didn’t blame him, though. Maddie was an amazing woman. What
she went through with Thomas was something no woman should have been
subjected to. The way she still brought little Rosie into the world and loved
her despite anything just proved how strong a woman she was. They were
perfect for each other, and I was happy for them both.
