Callie
The squeals of rolling laughter and the high-fiving between two female
models drew my attention. I knew the reason for their excitement—knew
that there was one person in this studio today who evoked that type of
behavior and drew that much attention.
I would have to be the walking dead if I hadn’t allowed my gaze to
stray in his direction a time or two, maybe three. However, I was working,
so gossiping about the hottest male model on set was never something I
participated in.

--- --- --- --- ---
The entertainment business boasted glitz and glamor, but it was one of
the most vicious industries on the planet that chewed up models and spit
them out daily. They allowed models like him fifteen minutes of fame, and
if he were lucky, he would get a call back for another job.
“Ouch. Shoot,” I hissed, sucking my pricked finger into my mouth after
spearing it with the needle I’d worked through the seam of the shirt I was
sewing. Keeping my finger in my mouth, I shoved my glasses up my nose
with my middle finger while maintaining my place on the blouse I was
preparing for the photoshoot already in progress.
One of the three models sandwiched between Twisted Minds, the band
I currently designed clothes for, had been the topic of discussion on set all
day. Several times, it appeared he’d glanced right at me and smiled.
I ignored him and maintained my worker bee status by keeping my
head down and staying the hell out of people’s way. It wasn’t because I was
shy either. If I was being honest, I didn’t always like people and would
rather not be bothered.
Nerdy, church mouse, and shy were some of the words tossed around to
describe me. None of the names bothered me as long as I was allowed to do
what I loved in peace.
The stampede of half-naked bodies heading my way yanked me back to
reality. It was time for a clothing change. My designs were the main reason
I was among this diverse group of singers, models, photographers, and
other industry experts.
“Will you help me out of this, baby?” Minx, the lead singer of Twisted
Minds, asked. Originally from New Orleans, she had a habit of calling
everyone baby. The lazy sound of her accent put a smile on my face every
time. Her smokey voice mixed with her southern twang was a uniquely
appealing sound that shone through when she sang.
She lifted the top as far as it would go up her chest and arms, and I
dragged it the rest of the way over her head. When the group first started
out in the business, they sought out dressing rooms or private areas to
change. Now, with time in the industry under their belt, modesty wasn’t
something they worried about as much.
