BETH
Elizabeth, or Beth to her friends, was in her dressing room, calming
her nerves. No matter how many times she had performed on stage,
she always got the jitters right before she went on. She always told
herself that it was silly. She knew all the words to the songs. She was familiar
with the stage, so she wouldn’t accidentally fall. She had almost fallen off the
stage during one of her first concerts. She would have hit the ground if her
guitarist hadn’t seen her and pulled her back. She made a joke about her
klutziness after the song was over, which endeared her even more to her fans.
She had proven to them that she was a real human and not some stuck up
super star.

She also made a point of being friendly to her fans, if they recognized her
and approached her in public. She gave out autographs and posed for
pictures. Beth had always let everyone around her know that she was just a
regular human who just happened to sing for a living.
Everyone loved Beth – almost. There always has to be that one jackass
who strives to make everyone’s life completely miserable. Beth actually had
two jackasses in her life.
The first was Jeffrey Phillips. He was a member of the paparazzi and had
made a name for himself ferreting out people’s secrets. Although Beth didn’t
have any skeletons in her closet, she did have a lion inside her – since she
was a lion shifter. She once caught him following her up a mountain path on
Phantom Canyon where she liked to shift and run.
The other jackass was Greg Winters. Greg had decided that he and Beth
were in a relationship whether Beth wanted to be or not. He showed up at all
her concerts, restaurants where she went to eat, and when she wasn’t in
public, he was usually lurking somewhere outside of her house. At first, he
was just around. Then, he started sending flowers and candy. Lately, Beth
suspected that he had broken into her house a couple of times, although there
was no way to prove it. Her security systems always ended up on the fritz
somehow, when she thought someone had been there. There were never any
signs of a forced entry. She called the cops each time anyway, but she could
tell that they were getting a little tired of her calling.
Beth figured that Greg would be in the audience, likely front row. Jeffrey
was probably lurking around back stage or somewhere else, hoping to catch
her unaware and get some kind of compromising picture.
Beth’s manager, Lilian Bell, knew that Beth would likely be in her
dressing room working herself up into a frenzy, like normal, so she went back
to try to talk to her and keep her calm.
